Prologue
The sky, a Picasso of blue, was empty except for a few specks of clouds. That’s weird. The Eagle thought. His talons gripped tighter around the thin branch. Why have they not come out? He failed to spot any of his comrades gliding on the wind. His light brown wings ached to touch the blueness of the sky. Gently he stretched them out, they brushed the other branches as his shook warily, threatening to give way. Just one lap around the forest… He thought. He’d surely spot them from the sky and scorn them on how they should have been up there. He let his powerful wings stroke downwards… And he was airborne. Wind rushed under his feathers and seemed to lift him up, higher and higher, till the forest was small enough to see it all. He tilted to the left and dropped steeply to the far left of the forest. “Creeeeaaawww!” His call filled the fresh air. Looking downward, he searched each tree for an eagle. He found none. “Where are you guys? Creeeaaawww!” He cawed. Suddenly the air was tense. The locus chirps was cut off. He felt the breath go out of him. A piercing explosion was the last thing he heard as a searing pain punctured his shoulder blade. “Yes…” The hunter murmured to himself as the eagle plummeted towards the ground.
